SolidWorks
- 1.File → Save As → "STL (*.stl)"
- 2.Click Options → set Resolution to Fine
- 3.Set units to Millimetres
- 4.Uncheck "Do not translate STL output data to positive space" for correct origin
Fusion 360
- 1.File → Export → STL
- 2.Structure: "One File Per Body"
- 3.Set Refinement to High
- 4.Ensure units are set to mm in Document Settings
FreeCAD
- 1.Select the solid body in the model tree
- 2.File → Export → select STL Mesh
- 3.Max deviation: 0.01 mm, Angular deviation: 0.5°
- 4.Millimetres assumed — verify in Preferences

STL files are loaded and rendered entirely in your browser using WebGL. Nothing is sent to our servers.
From 3D Model to Machined Part

STL & 3D File FAQ
Is STL good enough for CNC machining quotes?+
STL is fine for a first look and rough quoting, but it is a tessellated mesh — curved surfaces are approximated by flat triangles. For production CNC machining, send STEP (.stp/.step) or IGES files, which preserve exact geometry, plus a PDF drawing with tolerances and critical dimensions.
Why does my STL look faceted or low-poly in the viewer?+
Your CAD package exported the mesh with a coarse resolution setting. Re-export with a finer deviation (e.g. 0.01 mm max deviation, 0.5° angular tolerance in FreeCAD, or 'Fine/High' refinement in SolidWorks and Fusion 360). The facets only affect the preview — your underlying CAD model is still exact.
Are my files uploaded to a server?+
No. This viewer renders your STL entirely in your browser using WebGL (Three.js). The file never leaves your computer, so you can safely inspect confidential geometry before deciding what to share for a quote.
